Richard "Dick" M. Hughes, 75, 2910 N. Shore Drive, [Clear Lake, Iowa] died Saturday [Sept. 17, 1988] at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City, of natural causes. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Burial will be in the Ventura Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family requests memorials to the Richard M. Hughes Memorial Fund.
He was born in Mason City on October 15, 1912, a son of Jim and Pearl (Buck) Hughes. He attended Mason City schools and Mason City Junior College and also schools in Minneapolis. He married Doris Eileen Firkins on August 25, 1940, in Dows. He worked in the electrical industry for 36 years. He held masters licenses in eight states. He later worked for Crescent Electric, Mason City, and Westinghouse, Waterloo. He then worked for Dewey Electric, Ventura, for 23 years. He was the designer for tailor-made systems and retired as president of Dewey Electric in 1976. He and his wife spent the winters in Bradenton, Fla. He was a member of the National Electric Contractors Association, All Vets Golf Course and Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, Clear Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Kathy) Duea, Mankato, Minn; one son, Jim, Webster City; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Bob, Kansas City; and George, Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents.
