CLEAR LAKE, IA -- Doris E. Hughes Parks, 96, Mankato, Minnesota, formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at the Laurel Peak Rehabilitation Center, Mankato, Minnesota. A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 301 S. Main St., Ventura, with the Rev. Scott Kozisek officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon, preceding the service. Inurnment will be at the Ventura Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice in her honor.

Doris Eileen was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Meservey, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Pearl (Brogan) Firkins. She attended Dows Community School and graduated in the class of 1936. She trained at the La James Beauty School in Mason City, Iowa, and was a beautician there. She married Richard Merton “Dick” Hughes Aug. 25, 1940, at her mother’s home in Dows, Iowa. They resided in Mason City after World War II, moving to Davenport, Iowa, in 1952, and then to the Clear Lake area where she resided for 57 years. They had two children, Richard “Jim” and Kathleen. Richard died in 1988. Doris married Merlyn Parks July 11, 1992, in Ventura, Iowa.

Doris was an avid golfer. She enjoyed dancing, living by the lake, boating and traveling. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, Iowa.

Doris is survived by her son, Richard James “Jim” Hughes and his wife Jan, Webster City, Iowa, daughter Kathleen Duea and her husband Steve, Mankato, Minnesota; six grandchildren Michelle Lundquist, David (Kathleen) Hughes, Doug (Natalie) Hughes, Ben Duea, Kyle (Jackie) Duea and Nicole (Shane) Youell; great-grandchildren Bradley Lundquist, Megan Lundquist, Carson Hughes, Halle Hughes, Alex Duea, Blake Duea, Georgia Youell, Stella Youell, Layla Youell and Francesca Duea. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Richard Hughes and Merlyn Parks, two brothers and one sister. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, IA.
