May 26, 1840 --- October 14, 1922

Nathaniel V. Conner was born May 26, 1840, in St. Charles, III. He was united in marriage to Chloe Haviland Dec. 31, 1864, and died at his home in Eagle Grove on the evening of Oct. 14, 1922, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 18 days.

Mr. and Mrs. Conner moved to Wright county, Iowa, in 1865 and lived on their farm where their six children were born, all of whom are living except one who died at the age of twelve years. Those who survive are: Fred, who lived with his father; Mrs. Alice Floyd, of Kennebec, S.D.; George, who lives on a farm near Eagle Grove; Mrs. Lydia Morgan, of Arthyde, Minn., and Hubert of Parent, Canada. Mrs. Conner died on the 11th of February, 1917.

Mr. Conner was an old soldier of the Civil war. He enlisted as a corporal under Captain Gillman, Co. K, 141st Regiment of Illinois, on the 9th of May, 1864 to serve 100 days. He served to the close of the war and was given an honorable discharge on Oct. 10, 1864. At the time of his death he was a member of the Eagle Grove Methodist Episcopal church, which he joined in March of l895. He was also a member of the G.A.R. in the Wm. B. Griffith Post of Eagle Grove. Mr. Conner's health has been failing for several months. Before leaving for the Great Beyond he asked to be remembered to all his friends.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church on Thursday afternoon a t 1:30 o'clock. Rev. W. G. Muhleman preached the funeral sermon from the words found in Rev. 19:14. Interment was made in the Troy cemetery.
