Archie D. MacKay was born on April 19, 1916, to Charles and Maude Chamberlin MacKay at Waterloo, Iowa. He received his education in Waterloo and attended college in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for two years. On September 21, 1939, he and Violet Kruse were united in marriage. He owned and operated a service station in Eagle Grove, Iowa, for 12 years and then was employed by Umthun Trucking Company until 1980. He was an Amateur Radio operator. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove.

Archie D. MacKay died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City, Iowa, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife, Violet, Eagle Grove; one son, Charles A. MacKay, Ames, Iowa; one daughter, Sharon V. Metcalf, and husband, Robert, Spencerville, Ind.; five grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and one sister, Violet Smart, Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathye Jo Madsen; three grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove with Reverend Lisa Hadler officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
