Phyllis Louise Madson was born on March 15, 1929 in LuVerne to Hans Peter (Pete) and Nellie Madson. She was raised and educated in Eagle Grove, graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1947. She married Harold H. Hill on July 18, 1948. Their marriage was blessed with three children Nancy, Kathy, and Randal. She was a stay- at-home mom who enjoyed raising her children and being a helpmate to her husband. Phyllis enjoyed being active in her children’s school activities, serving as PTA President at Butler School and on the Camp Fire Board. She was a volunteer of Blue Birds, Campfire Girls and Cub Scouts. Phyllis taught Sunday school and often assisted her husband with the baseball teams he coached. Together they compiled stories and published a popular book entitled, “Memorable Day of the Flats” about the Fort Dodge neighborhood where Harold grew up.

Many remember Phyllis for her great sense of humor. She enjoyed playing card and board games, fishing, listening to music, and playing or watching sports, especially those in which her family members played or coached. She was known for her competitiveness and gracious sportsmanship. She had a talent for fixing broken mechanical items. Her activities also included attending auctions and flea markets, going to casinos, and meeting friends for breakfast at Burger King. She was determined, proud, and hard working woman with strong opinions and outstanding love and devotion to her family. Phyllis always put the needs of others before her own.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Nancy (Harlan) Langlitz, Meservey, Iowa; Kathy Schwaller, Fort Dodge, Iowa; son Randal (Jackie) Hill, Sioux Falls, SD; brother Richard (Ardith) Madson, Fort Collins, Co; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Hill, Brooke Langlitz, Tiffany (Derek) Paben, Kim (Cory) Hoover, Lincoln Langlitz, Tammy (Cameron) Hale and Tom (Ashley) Hill; eight great grandchildren, Jade, Kylie, and Bailey Hoover, Colton Hale, Kylee and Noah Paben, and Ayden and Liv Hill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold in 2003 and sisters Hazel Glemmestad, Frieda Hudson, Nadean (Mesecher) Griffen, Ruth Stafford, Nell Stafford and a brother Harold Madson.
