July 12, 1881 ---- February 16, 1944

Walter L. Hawkins, son of Samuel and Sarah Lois Brown Hawkins, was born at Dakota City, Ia., on July 12, 1880, and passed away at his home there on Wednesday February 16, 1944, at the age of 63 years, 7 months, and 4 days. His death from a heart attack was sudden and unexpected, although he had not been in good health for a number of years. Practically all of his life was spent in Dakota City, Humboldt and the nearby vicinity. He attended school in Dakota City, and as a young man took up the trade of baker and followed that trade for number of years. He was employed at one time at the Ellsworth bakery in Humboldt, and later went into business for himself in Dakota City.

He was unmarried, and lived for some time with his mother. However, since her removal to Eagle Grove, where she could be cared for by a daughter, he has lived alone. Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Julia McDirmid of Dakota City, and Jean, Mrs. Edward James of Eagle Grove. His father passed away in 1907 and a brother, Archie, has also preceded him in death.

During his active years, Mr. Hawkins took pride in his ability in his chosen trade, that of a master baker. Handicapped by poor health, which may have been wrought on by the peculiar exigencies of his trade, he continued his quiet life uncomplainingly. Friends of the family extended their sympathy to the aged mother and bereaved sisters. Funeral services at Lindhart chapel Friday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2 o'clock, Rev. W. Clark Williams officiating. Burial in Union cemetery.
