September 28, 1877 --- June 16, 1946

Committal services were held at the graveside in Westlawn cemetery, Glidden, at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon for Henry A. Johnson of Eagle Grove, formerly of Glidden and Carroll, who died at his home Sunday after a short illness. The rites followed services at Wilson's chapel in Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Clarence W. Thompkins officiating. The Masonic service by Signet Lodge #264 of Carroll.

Henry Adolph Johnson was born Sept. 28, 1877, at Lawler, Iowa, the first son of Anders Peter and Wilhelmina Johnson. At an early age the family moved to Eagle Grove, where he spent his youth and was graduated from high school with the class of 1894. He was married to Miss May Fothergill April 18, 1901, in the same home in Eagle Grove where he spent his last years.

To them were born three children: Marcella, who preceded her father in death in 1918; Bernard A. of Storm Lake, and Mrs. Earl Newburn of Rushmore, Minn. His wife, daughter and son and two grandchildren, Carol Lee Johnson and Jan Beth Newburn, survive. After finishing high school, Mr. Johnson attended the Humboldt business college and then was associated with his father and brother in the grocery and bakery business at Eagle Grove. In 1903 they disposed of their business interests in Eagle Grove and moved to a farm in Carroll county near Glidden. Subsequently, the family lived in Carroll, moving from there to Eagle Grove. He had lived in Carroll county more than 28 years.

Mr. Johnson was employed by the Iowa Public Service company until he retired about two years ago. He was a member of the Methodist church and an active member of various Masonic lodges. He belonged to Bower Lodge No. 464 of Eagle Grove, and to Copestone Chapter, Cryptlc Council and Azgad Commandery at Carroll. He was a member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine at Des Moines. Mr. Johnson had served as master of the Masonic lodge at Glidden. He had been active in the organization and early work of the Farm Bureau in Carroll county and had served as president of that organization for many years. He had been a leader in the organization of a Farmers elevator at Glidden and a supporter of other early farming cooperative organizations.
