January 6, 1901 --- June 3, 1982

Joseph "Joe" Torkelson, the son of John and Elvina (Knutson) Torkelson, was born in Humboldt on Jan. 6, 1901. He was educated in Humboldt County and grew to manhood here. He was united in marriage to Sophia Kleveland on Dec. 22, 1922, at Hardy, IA. The couple farmed in Humboldt County until 1952, when they moved to Livermore. Mr. Torkelson was then employed at the Agrico Chemical Company, where he worked until his retirement. Mrs. Torkelson passed away on Aug. 7, 1968. At the time of his death, Mr. Torkelson was making his home with his daughter, Janet Hacker, at Hancock, MN. He passed away at the Stevens County Memorial Hospital in Morris, MN, on June 3, 1982, at the age of 81.

Mr. Torkelson is survived by his son: John Torkelson of Liberal, KS.; two daughters: Mrs. Delbert (Lois) Johnson of Cleghorn, IA; and Mrs. Donald "Don" (Janet) Hacker of rural Hancock, MN. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother: Henry Torkelson of Buffalo Center, IA; and a sister: Mrs. Berger (Elizabeth) Dale of Thor, IA.

On June 7, 1982 at 10:30 A.M.
