September 13, 1897 --- February 15, 1972

AUBURN, Iowa - William J. Hensel, 74, of Auburn, a retired farmer, died Tuesday night, Feb. 15, at Shady Oaks Nursing Home in Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church here, with the Rev. Theodore Letzring officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn. Arrangements are in charge of the Huffman Memorial Chapel, Lake City, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Hensel was born at Auburn Sept. 13, 1897, a son of Wilhelm and Helene Schultz Hensel. On Dec. 31, 1927, he was married to Ruby Egenes at Renwick and they farmed near Auburn. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as an elder for 30 years. He served as a member of the Auburn School board for 30 years, was a Sac County supervisor for six years, and had been a member of the Farm Bureau and the Sac County Conservation board.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, James of Gainesville; Fla.; Roy of Cranbury, N.J.; Arthur of Apopka, Fla.; and Harold of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Al (Marcia) Miller of Yucca Valley, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, John Hensel of Auburn and Oscar Hensel of Lake City; four sisters, Mrs. Hilda Breckenfelder of Auburn, Mrs. Helene Schroeder of Lake View, Mrs. A.J. Hartyck of Sac City and Mrs. Alice Davis of Pasadena, Calif.; also a brother-in-law, Ross Herrig of Corsica, S.D. Five sisters preceded him in death.
