Charles F. Rickard, 85, 613 7th Ave. N. died on Sunday, Jan. 1 at a Clear Lake Nursing Home. Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. in Thursday, Jan. 5 at the Evangelical Free Church, Rev. Kent Wagner officiating and interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Francis Rickard was born March 16, 1892 at Swaledale, the son of James and Mary (Allison) Rickard. At the age of three, he moved to Clear Lake. Following his education in the Clear Lake Schools, he began work with Mason City – Clear Lake Railroad. He served 27 months in the U.S. Army, WWI; thirteen months were in France and Germany. Following the war he returned to the Mason City – Clear Lake Railroad and remained with them until retirement in 1958. Rickard was married to Elsie M. Pals at Arlington, Iowa on December 23, 1930. Their home has always been in Clear Lake.

Rickard is survived by his wife, Elsie, and 2 daughters Mrs. Martin (Lois) Meier, Swaledale, and Mrs. Jean Barnes of Clear Lake, also one sister Mrs. Margie Butts of Clear Lake and two brothers, Lyle W. Rickard, Clear Lake, Shirley Rickard of Mason City, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

He was a charter member of the Evangelical Free Church, and a member of Stafford Post #222 American Legion. Organist will be Mrs. Stanley Brue. Soloist, Mrs. Denzil Hoskins. In charge of flowers are Mrs. Dick Hill, Mrs. Don Neuberger and Mrs. Les Nelson. Pallbearers will be Riley Rickard, Jerry Rickard, Gary Beek, Dennis Beek, Darwin Nelson, Roger Nelson and Paul Nelson.
