Donald Dean Sherman was born May 3, 1917, the son of Obediah B. and Kathryn Biesell Sherman, at Triumph, Minn. The family moved to Goldfield where Donald attended school. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Nelson of Eagle Grove, on December 17, 1941, at Bethany, Mo. He entered the Army in 1940 and received his honorable discharge in 1945. He then worked for Wright County for several years, then to the Eagle Grove Water Department for one year, and the Eagle Grove Police Department. He started working for the Eagle Grove school system in 1952 and retired from there at the age of 60, in 1977.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, an active Scout leader having attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmarron, N. M. He was also a member of the V.F.W., and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Donald Sherman died at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge, August 21, 1988, at the age of 71 years, three months, and 18 days.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Eagle Grove; two sons, Loren, Mesa, Ariz.; and Roger, Eagle Grove; one daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Deanne) Brown, Des Moines; one brother, Burton, Goldfield; and one sister, Mrs. Tunis (Evelyn) Tate, Batavia, Ill.; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held for Donald Sherman at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, Thursday, August 25, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated, and burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral was in charge of arrangements.
