ROBERT JOHNSTON IS DEAD AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

Robert Johnston, a resident of this city for more than 25 years, passed away at the Hawarden hospital about o'clock Wednesday morning following a lingering illness. Mr. Johnston lad been suffering from a heart ailment for several years but became critically ill Sunday and was removed to the hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Ross Funeral home at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Noel Orcutt of the Associated church in charge. Interment will be in Grace hill cemetery.

Robert Johnston was born at Pacific Junction, Iowa, on December 29, 1881, and grew to young manhood at that place. He was married to Dorabelle Walling at Glenwood, Iowa, on December 25, 1901. Following his marriage, he moved to St. Joseph, Mo., and then to Eugene, Oregon, where he operated a restaurant. After spending a year in the West he returned to Iowa, locating at Eagle Grove, where he entered the employ of the North Western Railway company. He came to Hawarden 28 years ago. For a number of years he was yard master and later he was employed in the car repair department. In 1941, when the help in the local yards was reduced, he was transferred to Clinton, where he was also employed by the North Western company. Due to failing health he retired on pension in 1943 and he and his wife returned to their home in the south part of Hawarden and for the past two years he lived here.

He is survived by his wife and four children, Pfc. Albert Johnston, of the air corps, who is stationed at Las Vegas, Nov.; Robert Johnston of Burbank, Calif.; Mrs. Henry Cammock of Orange City and Mrs. Carroll Johnson of Pasadena, Calif. Three children preceded him in death, two in infancy and Delbert a number of years ago. He is also survived by one brother Joe Johnston of Pacific Junction, and one half brother, George Johnson of Glenwood, Iowa. There are eight grandchildren.
