Esther Heimer was born May 18, 1923, in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Lula (Slaughter) Martin. She grew up in Clarion where she attended school and later graduated from Clarion High School in 1942. After her schooling she worked in Des Moines and also at the Civil Defense plant during World War II. On April 25, 1946, Esther was united in marriage to Eugene Heimer in Mason City. After their marriage the couple lived in Mason City before moving to Emmetsburg in 1948. In 1950, they moved to Algona. Esther enjoyed her grandchildren, bowling, reading, walking and doing puzzles. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America and former member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Esther died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. She was 86. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley and husband Mike Lickteig of Perry; Linda Heimer of Waterloo; Judy Vautier of Algona; five grandchildren, Mark, Melissa and Ryan Lickteig, Cole and Cassie Vautier. Also surviving is a sister, June Schumpp of Mason City; brother-in-law, Dan and Jan Heimer and sister-in-law, Agnes Crawford all of Shawnee Mission, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene on May 6, 2005; sisters, Violet Hokinson and Ardith Knutson; brothers, Leo, Leighton and Donald Martin.
