F. M. Wooster Dies After Long Illness

Fredrick Martin Wooster, retired Brigadier General in the Iowa National Guard and well known Eagle Grove businessman, died here Friday after an extended illness. He was 58. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, conducted by Pastor H. W. Schiller, and burial was in Eagle Grove Rose Hill Cemetery.

LARGE CONTINGENT

A large contingent of high ranking National Guard officers attended the funeral services and interment, including General Joseph G. May, Adjutant General of the Guard.

Mr. Wooster was born in Eagle Grove, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1936. He received his B.S. from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1940, and taught history in the Eagle Grove High School before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served in Alaska during World War II, and was promoted to Major before being released from active duty in 1946. He was appointed Major in the Iowa National Guard the following year, promoted to Lt. Colonel in 1958, and Colonel in 1965. He was finally promoted to Brigadier General and placed on the Roll of Retired Officers in 1967. He was the first company commander of the Iowa National Guard Unit in Eagle Grove. During his military career, Mr. Wooster received numerous medals and honors, including the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Ten Year Device and the Iowa National Guard 20 Year Service Ribbon. Mr. Wooster was the owner of the Wooster Insurance Agency in Eagle Grove.

SURVIVORS

Surviving are the widow; sons, Fredrick M., Jr., San Francisco; Larry M., Eagle Grove; daughters, Mrs. Dennis Olson, Chicago; Miss Mary Ann Wooster, a student at Iowa State University, Ames; brothers, Ben Wooster, Eagle Grove; Carl, Fort Dodge; sisters, Mrs. Frank Tanner, Sr., and Miss Emma Wooster, Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Robert Christopher, Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Wooster was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.
