Mrs. Helen M. Gilligan, 72, LuVerne, died Friday evening, Jan. 7, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Livermore. There was a rosary at 8 p.m. Monday at Garry-Roberts-Schaaf Funeral Home in LuVerne.

Survivors include her husband, James, LuVerne; sons, Michael, Santa Maria, Calif.; Patrick, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and Paul, Seattle, Wash.; daughters, Mrs. Fred (Regina) Madison, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Dennis (Mary Armstrong, Algona; Mrs. James (Kathleen) Jewell, Goldfield; and Mrs. Merwin (Teresa) Baer, Algona; brothers, Tom and Joe Loftus, both of Humboldt; 31 grandchildren: and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. Pallbearers were Michael Gilligan Jr., Terry Gilligan, Randy Gilligan, Rick Gilligan, Joe Armstrong, Ron Armstrong, Vic Jewell, Mark Jewell, Louis Pergande and James Ekeler, all grandsons. The altar boys were Tim and Tom Armstrong, also grandsons.

Helen Loftus, daughter of Michael and Anne Henneberry Loftus, was born Feb. 17, 1910, at Gilmore City. She graduated from St. John's School in Gilmore City in 1929. She married James Gilligan Feb. 6, 1934, at Gilmore City. They had lived in Lu Verne since 1960. They also lived 15 years in Hardy and in Clare before that. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Livermore, the Ladies Guild of the church, and the Senior Citizens of Lu Verne.
