March 7, 1870 --- October 20, 1924

Michael P Loftus was born in Shenandoah, Pa on March 7, 1870. At the age of 10 years he moved with his parents to Manson, Iowa where they lived on a farm for 2 years. Then they moved to a farm near Pioneer where he lived until 1902, when he moved to the present home. On Oct 2, 1902 he was united in marriage to Mary Anna Henneberry. To this union six children were born. Mrs. Loftus died May 25, 1918. leaving her husband to care for the family of small children. With a grief so overwhelming as the loss of his dear wife, life seemed cloudy but with the consoling words of his kind mother, he braced up and made a comfortable and happy home for his children.

Mr Loftus was always a good hard working man. He loved his home and children and their happiness was his concern. Mr. Loftus has been suffering of anemia for about three years and consulted many specialists with the hope of receiving relief. His condition continued to grow worse and 3 weeks ago his was confined to his bed.

On Sunday Oct 19, it was learned that his end was near and his family, his brothers, and sister were called to his bedside while they watched carefully as the life of their loved on ebbed away. He passed to his heavenly reward at 6:30 p.m. Monday Oct 20. He leaves to mourn his departure 5 sons: Bernard, Joseph, John, Thomas, and Francis; one daughter Helen; his aged mother, who had made her home with him and his family since the death of his wife 6 years ago; two brothers, Thomas and John of this place; and one sister, Mrs F. A. Meyer of Clare. His father, one brother, Patrick, and a sister, Nora preceded him in death. Funeral services were at St Johns catholic church in Gilmore City. Interment took place in the Catholic cemetery at that place.
