February 19, 1907 --- September 17, 1985

Joseph Loftus of Dakota City, 78, died Tuesday morning at Humboldt Care Center North. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors by the Adams American Legion Post 119. He is survived by his brother Tom Loftus of Humboldt and nieces and nephews. Joe was born near Gilmore City, and was employed on farms in the area. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 46 in the south Pacific and then was later employed in Humboldt County. He farmed for a number of years, and made his home in Dakota City where he retired. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Mary's Catholic Church, and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his brothers Bernard, John, and Frank Loftus and his sister Helen Gilligan.
