Funeral Services Held For Oldest Resident Charles Schipull, 93

Renwick's oldest resident Charles Schipull, 93, died at his home, Friday, March 11, 1960. He had been in poor health for quite some time. Funeral services were held Monday, Mar. 14 at the Blake Funeral chapel with Rev. Roy A. Blesemeyer, officiating. Mrs. George Bell was pianist and accompanied Mrs. Stanley McCurry, Robert Lane, Mrs. Norman Peer and Thomas Gimer who sang. Casket attendants were Loren Schipull, Donald Schipull, Duane Field, Everett Schipull, Verne Schipull and Gary Young. Burial was in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield, Iowa.

Charles Schipull, son of Carl and Wilhelmina Schipull was born Mar. 22, 1986 in East Prussia, Germany and passed away in his home at Renwick, Iowa, Mar. 11, 1960 at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 20 days. While Charles was a small child his family moved to Hamburg, Germany. It was here that he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. At the age of 16 years, Charles, seeking a new and freer way of life embarked on a freighter and came to the United States. He located in Davenport, Iowa, where he worked in a packing plant. Two years later, the rest of the family came to the United States. They moved to the Renwick Community where they farmed for several years. On December 23, 1890, Charles Schipull was united in marriage to Sadie Kelling and moved to a farm in Norway Township, Wright Co., Iowa. In 1901 they purchased a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Renwick where they resided until 1923 when they retired and moved into their new house in Renwick. To this union five sons and four daughters were born. One daughter died in infancy and the other eight children grew to manhood and womanhood in this vicinity leaving the parental home for homes and careers of their own.

The children are: Rudolf, Carl and John of Goldfield, Albert of LuVerne, Alma, (Mrs. O. T. Carlson) of Albert City, Iowa, Walter of Arlington, Va., and Olga, (Mrs. A. R. Young) of Rockford, Ill.. Another daughter, Clara (Mrs. D. B. Gearhart of Kalamazoo, Mich., preceded him in death, having passed away in Sept, 1959. His wife passed away in March 1938. Mr. Schipull has been in failing health since last Sept. He has been cared for in his own home by Mrs. Mabel Griffith, of Goldfield, and a nurse as well as by members of his family until he passed away on Friday night, March 11, 1960. Besides his children, he is survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
