Funeral Service For Asa H. Brayton Held At Hardy Sunday

Funeral services for Asa H. Brayton of Hardy were held Sunday, Jan. 17, 1960 at 3 p.m. in the Hardy Methodist church with the Rev. Roy A. Blessmeyer in charge. Music was by Wilma Clancy, Rosamond Hefty with Eleanor Kitley organist. Casket attendants were Wm. Wyatt, Oscar Wyatt, John Swanson, Marshall Clancy, Lloyd Walker and John Vought. Burial was in the Vernon cemetery at Renwick, Iowa with military rites. Blake Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements. Mr. Brayton's last employment was with the Boone Valley Schools were he served as bus driver and janitor.

Asa Harold Brayton son of William and Gertrude Brayton, was born April 30, 1896 at Crescent City, Illinois. He passed away Jan. 14, I960, at the Veterans Hospital at Iowa City at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 35 days. He grew up in the Somers, Iowa vicinity and attended Buena Vista college at Storm Lake. He was united in marriage to Florence Mack, January 3, 1917. To this union four children were born Lloyd, who preceded his father in death during World War II, Keith., Verna, (Mrs. Carl Lippolt), and Shirley of Hardy.

He was engaged in farming for a number of years in the Somers and Hardy community. After leaving the farm he took up the carpenter trade. For the past four years he has been custodian and bus driver for the Boone Valley School District. In his early life he attended and became a member of the Congregational church of Somers. At the time of his death he was a member of the Hardy Methodist church. He was preceded in death by one son Lloyd, his parents, and one brother, Roy. Surviving are his wife, Florence, three children, and five grandsons, three sisters, Ola Tripp of Somers, Dorothy Apley of Callendar, and Fern Wyatt of St. Petersburg, Fla., and three brothers, Fay of Dubuque, Donald of Somers, and Glen of Hardy. He leaves to mourn many relatives and a host of friends.
