January 25, 1857 ---- May 27, 1919

James Milton Rudy was born January 25, 1857, near Lewiston, Penn. He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1865, settling on a farm near Clarence, Ia., where he worked until he was 18 years of age. He then went to Chicago and learned telegraphy. After learning the key thoroughly he went to work for the Northwestern and was sent to Eagle Grove in 1881 as operator while the road was being built. He was promoted to dispatcher in 1882, was promoted to chief train dispatcher, and in 1907, resigned his work and engaged in the the insurance business and continued in that work until his death.

James M Rudy and Miss Jessie Heckart were married July 10, 1895. Two children were born to them, a little boy, who died many years ago and one daughter, Evelyn, who with the widow and two sisters survive. Mrs. Sarah E. Omo, the sister living in Chicago was unable to attend the funeral but Mrs. Mary Davis of Clarence, Iowa, was present.

Mr. Rudy was a member of all the Masonic orders, both York and Scottish Rites. For several years he has been secretary of all the local orders and gave generously of his time and energy in the faithful discharge of his duties. His will be a place hard to fill because of the invaluable service rendered.

There was a large attendance of sorrowing friends and relatives at the funeral service which was held at the home Thursday, afternoon, Rev. Tyler had charge of the service and the Masonic burial service was exemplified at the grave [Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove]. The entire community is mourning the loss of Mr. Rudy. He was a friend of everybody. He had no enemies. Every acquaintance has lost a friend. The sincere sympathy of all is extended the bereaved and mourning relatives.
