Arthritis, Age Fatal After Many Years of Invalidism
Mrs. Lewis (Carrie Marie) Eike, 79, died at her home here Monday evening of arthritis and the complications of age. She had been bedfast eight months and a semi-invalid for 15 years. Mr. Eike and the son Oscar had been caring for her.
Burial Made Today.
Short funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at 1:30 at the McCullough Funeral Home, the Rev. A. English officiating and the body was taken to Eagle Grove for burial. Pallbearers were Carl Tegtmeier, Woden; Joseph Jensen, Eagle Grove, Ben Ersland, Thor; and P.D. Nolan, Shenandoah; and two Eldora friends were to assist at Eagle Grove.
Mrs. Eike's maiden surname was Pederson and she was born July 8, 1860, at Christiania, Norway. She came to the United States in 1883, and settled at Thor, Humboldt county. Six years later she was married at Eagle Grove. The Eikes lived at Eagle Grove four years, then two years at Clarion, after which they came to Algona, where Mr. Eike has had a shoe repair shop ever since.
Two sons, Daughters
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Eike were a daughter Hazel, who died in infancy; a son Oscar, who now manages the shop; a son Herbert who was killed in an accident four years ago; and Mrs. P. D. Nolan, Shenandoah. There is also Lawrence Eike, Eldora, son of Mr. Eike by a prior marriage. Mrs. Anton Amerson, Hancock, Minn. is a sister of Mrs. Eike.
From away to attend the funeral came Mr. and Mrs. Amerson; the Ben Erslands, Thor; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tegtmeier, Woden; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Whitman, Edwardsville, Ill.; Mrs. Dora Eike, South Bend, Ind.; Lawrence Eike, the Nolans, and the Joseph Jensens and Emma, Jennie, and Peter Jensen of Eagle Grove.
