F. M. Brooks Rites Held Wednesday

Fred Marion Brooks, son of Josephine and Frank M. Brooks, was born on March 1, 1888 at Waterloo, Iowa, and passed away very suddenly at his home in Clarion on Monday, November 23, 1964 at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 22 days. He attended the Waterloo Schools and learned the boilermaker's trade in Waterloo. He was a boilermaker for the Chicago Great Western Railroad in Brainerd, Minnesota, for 4 years and in Oelwein, Iowa, for 13 years, having lived there from 1942 to 1948. The rest of the time he worked in Clarion, retiring in 1953. On July 4, 1921 at St. Paul, Minnesota, he was united in marriage to Ella Richardson. Fred was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge #124 and the Marietta Rebekah Lodge #501 for 48 years,and a long time member of the Clarion Encampment. He was a member of Cyrene Lodge #325 for over 42 years. Fred was a member of the Calvary Evangelical church of Waterloo, but faithfully attended the First Methodist Church of Clarion.

Surviving are his wife, Ella of Clarion, two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Opal Dugas of Babbitt, Minnesota and Mrs. Goldie Schneider of Popejoy, Ia. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Anna Mae Volbruck of Waterloo and one brother, Boyce of Brainerd, Minnesota, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, his former wife, three brothers, Charles, Jake and Jim of Waterloo, and a sister, Etta of Brainerd, Minnesota.

Last rites were held at the Clarion Methodist church on Wednesday, November 25 at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Ernest C. Allen officiating. Carl Weitmon sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." Mrs. Paul Loomis was organist. Odd Fellow Services were also conducted at the church. Pallbearers were Earl Sizemore, Jesse Radohl, C. M. Larson, Clair Woodley, Harry Tague and Elmer Carrls. The Eyler Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Clarion Evergreen cemetery.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the service were; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dugas, Babbitt, Minn.,Mr. and Mrs. Tom Schneider and family of Popejoy; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Volbruck, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Waychoff and Mrs. Harold Hornbuckle and Dick, all of Waterloo; Mrs. Elden Barnes, and Mrs. Linda Srigley of Long Lane, Missouri; Mrs. Oscar Bradford and George Blankenship of Thermopolis, Wyoming; Mrs. Jack Sloyer of Fridley, Minn., Mrs. Virgil Smith and Larry of Anoka, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Allen of Denver, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Nail of Webster City, Charlie O'Connor of Webster City: Mrs. Henry Topper, Mrs. Maynard Wilson, all of Webster City; Mrs. Harley Kill and Mrs. Glenn Kaiser of Dows, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gollner of Wesley, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Pieffer, of Wesley; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Jenison, Mr. and Mrs. William Heginger, all of Belmond; Mr. and Mrs. Miller Wergeland of Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lee of Woolstock and Mr. and Mrs. Newt Lee of Vincent.
