LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Peter R. Mauro, 61, of Lawrenceville died on Sunday at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY, Peter was a Lawrenceville resident most of his life.He attended York College of Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelor's degree in music education.

He taught bands at Dows Community in Dows, Iowa; at Benton Community High School in Van Horne, Iowa, at Bridgewater-Raritan High School East in Bridgewater, NJ, at Wanaque-Haskell Schools in Wanaque, NJ, then was the band director at Allentown High School for 18 years before his retirement in 2007. He had also directed the jazz ensemble at Princeton University.

Son of the late Peter Fulvio Mauro, Peter is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jean Cranstoun Mauro; his children, Gabriella Raffo and her husband, Darrell, Eric Mauro and his wife, Ashley, and Alexander Mauro; his grandsons, Luciano Raffo and Enzo Mauro; his mother, Theda Barra Mauro; his sister and brother-in-law, Adrienne and Mark Mazar; his godson and nephew, Shane Mazar, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Peter will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 11 a.m. at Poulson and Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Peter's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005.
