Helen Arline Hanson, 85, of Eagle Grove, IA, died peacefully, with her family at her side, Friday, July 25, 2014 at Windsor Manor, in Webster City, Ia, where she has lived for the past 4 ½ years.

Arline was born February 2, 1929 in Clarion, IA to Platt Dewey & Helen Gould (Appleby) LaRue. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School. She married James Yenck on June 29, 1947 in Iowa. James died in 1978. She married Merrill Hanson SR. on August 2, 1986 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Arline worked at Wilson's in Eagle Grove and Morton's Foods in Webster City as well as a cook and waitress for many years at several restaurants including The Alibi, The Boondocks, and the Coffee Nook. Arlene also rode as a transportation aide on a special needs bus in Eagle Grove.

Arline never knew a stranger, she enjoyed people watching and would often make a new friend while sitting on a bench at a park or store. She enjoyed reading, cooking and collecting decorative bells. Arline kept herself young by spending her time with kids, grandkids and "adopted" grandkids, whom she had babysat for many years. She spent many hours enjoying her family, especially her grandkids, who often talk of going to her house. She was a great cook and the grandkids especially liked her pancakes and cookies. She had a zest for attending her grandchildren's activities from tee ball, soccer, cross country, basketball, church programs, band and chorus concerts, if they were in something that's where she wanted to be. Arline was a member of Park Church of Christ in Goldfield, Iowa.

Her family includes: son James (Dolores "Dee") Yenck of Webster City, and their children Shane, of Gilmore City & Nikolas of Ankeny; daughter Susan Smith of Apple Valley, MN and her children Jennifer of Apple Valley, Joshua of Chapel Hill, NC & Travis of Apple Valley, MN; & daughter Kelly (William "Bill") Dodge and their children Kristine, Brittney & Zachary all of Webster City; two sister-in-laws: Betty LaRue of Clarion, Iowa and Lea LaRue of Boone, Ia. Preceding her in death were her parents, two husbands James & Merrill; five children: Mark, Mary, Helen, Ted & Deborah; brothers Harley, Ronald, Marvin, Boyd & Earl; and sister Muriel.

The Visitation will be Monday July 28, at Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove from 5-7 PM. On Tuesday July 29 at 1st Baptist Church in Eagle Grove there will be visitation at 11:00 AM followed by lunch at 12:00, and the Funeral service at 1:00 PM, with the burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery.
