Funeral services for Thomas I. Sampson were held at Bergen Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon, August 6, the Rev. T. J. Alvestad of Story City in charge. Otto J. Hanson sang two solos, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and a Norwegian hymn, "Den Store Hvide Flok", accompanied by Mrs. Hanson at the organ. A tape recording by the Rev. H. M. Lybeck, the family pastor, was a part of the service, and the Rev. Alvestad delivered the sermon. Casket bearers were Twedt Rutherford, Robert Highland, Floyd Twedt, Theodore Sampson, Edward G. Sampson and Robert Lee.

OBITUARY

Thomas I. Sampson, son of Iver and Guro Sampson, was born October 27, 1871 in Story County, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Roland on August 3, 1963, at the age of 91 years, 9 months and 7 days. Mr. Sampson had been a resident of the Roland area most of his life, with the exception of several years at Eagle Grove. The family lived on the farm for some years, then moved to town in 1918, where Mr. Sampson was engaged in business for a number of years. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church at Roland, of which he was a lifetime member. He was united in marriage to Ellen Twedt on May 27, 1896, at the Bergen Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Jacobson.

Mr. Sampson was preceded in death by three children: a son, Rufus, who passed away at the age of one year; a daughter, Amy (Mrs. Casper Jerdeman); and a son, Ivan Sampson. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Iver Sampson, Sr.; three brothers, Sam, Edward and Oscar; three sisters, Carrie, Annie and Christina; and three grandchildren, Robert and Ann Ellen Jerdeman and Stanley Sampson. He is survived by his wife, Ellen; one daughter, Mrs. Sanford Olson; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ivan Sampson; two grandchildren, James T. Larson of Ames and Mrs. James Reinertson of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Mark and Marilee Reinertson of Cedar Rapids and Vicki Sampson of Nevada; one brother, Iver Sampson of Roland; and two sisters, Emma (Mrs. Tom Solomonson) and Sadie (Mrs. Ole Olson) of Storden, Minn. Interment was in the Roland Cemetery.
