December 12, 1849 --- May 20, 1942

Mary Constable was one of six daughters and no sons. On March 26, 1883, at the age of 34, in New York state, she was married to John Cowan. The year 1897 found the couple at Eagle Grove, Ia. In 1900 they came to Wyoming, their first stop being at Guernsey where they resided about a year. They moved to Douglas in 1901 and this had been her home since. Mr. Cowan died on September 15, 1930 and Mrs. Cowan's only daughter, Mrs. Jennie Wittenberg, passed away eight or nine years ago; both dying at the Douglas hospital. Survivors are two sons, William L. Cowan of near Kansas City, Mo., and Frank J. Cowan of Casper, the latter being an announced candidate for governor and eight years mayor of Casper.
