April 13, 1853 --- September 15, 1930

John Cowan, born in Ireland.

John Cowan, as a young man came to the United States settling at Eagle Grove, Iowa, in Wright County. A few years later he moved to New York State, being united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Constable at Norfolk, March 26, 1883. They moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa in 1897 and migrated to Wyoming in 1900. The first year in this part was spent at Guernsey after which they came to Douglas which has since been their home. Mr. Cowan was a carpenter by trade and was involved in the operation of the Home Bakery with his daughter. He is survived by two sons and a daughter, William L., Independence, Mo.; John Franklin of Casper; and Mrs. John Wittenberg of Douglas. Two sisters also are left to mourn his departure, Mrs. T. H. Means of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Margaret A. Warner of Eagle Grove, Ia.
