March 17, 1862 --- April 1, 1914

Patrick J. Horan was born in Jackson County on March 17, 1862, and died at his home in Eagle Grove April 1, 1914. He came to Humboldt county in his early manhood where he has lived until March 21, 1914, when he moved to Eagle Grove. He had an attack of the lagrippe but rallied from it and was thought to be out of danger, but about twelve hours before the end, became unconscious and so remained until death came.

He was married in 1890, to Carrie Lavin. Six children were born of this union, Mrs. Mae Notestine of Bradgate, Stacia, Joe, Stella, who died in infancy, Donald and Ray. He also left four brothers and one sister to mourn his loss. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Livermore April 3, six of the M. W. A. of Hardy acting as pall bearers.

Thus has passed from us into the Great Beyond one who was universally respected and loved. A good citizen who loved his country. A good neighbor, kindly, helpful and cheerful, he made use of the Golden rule in has dealings with his fellow men. Truly it may be said of him, "The good that men do lives after them." He was a kind husband, a loving father. He left the memory of a noble and upright character, a rich heritage to his young sons. May they revere it and live to honor it.
