Leonard Bernhard Hanson, born March 5, 1887 to Knut and Lisa Hanson near Bergen, Norway, died July 20 at the Minor Nursing Home, Eagle Grove. At the age of 20, he came to the United States in 1907 and worked for three years at Bode, Iowa. In 1910 he accepted employment with the Christensen Shoe Company, at Eagle Grove. Six years later he opened his own shoe store which continues in Eagle Grove. In 1914 he took a six month trip back to Norway where he married Mathilda Rakeraas. She died in 1943. Their three children survive them: Clara LaVonne, Mrs. Joe Hall of Fort Dodge; Orvel of Oelwein; and Lloyd of Eagle Grove. Eight grandchildren and one great grandchild survive him, as do his brothers Magnus of Waterloo and Harold of Eagle Grove, and three brothers and one sister in Norway. Two brothers and one sister in Norway preceded him in death. He was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church for over forty years and until recently, chairman of its Board of Trustees. Services were held in the church Tuesday, July 24 at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
