HUMBOLDT - Mildred Henry, 97, of Humboldt, passed away June 15, 2014 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Services will 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Charles Luers officiating. Visitation will follow the services during a lunch in Morehouse Fellowship Hall at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Henry, the daughter of Robert and Fannye (Hayden) Henry, was born June 17, 1916 at Blairstown, Iowa. As a child, she moved with her family to Traer, Iowa where she received her education. Mildred attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she received her degree in Physical Education and Biology. She then took her graduate studies at Drake University in Des Moines. Mildred began her teaching career as a physical education Teacher at Fairfield, Iowa. She then served the school districts of Prineville, Oregon and Belmond, Iowa before moving to Humboldt in 1956. Mildred served as the 7th grade science teacher at Humboldt until her retirement in 1979. In her retirement, Mildred continued her service to Education by teaching and tutoring Native American children at the McCurdy School in New Mexico. She also enjoyed traveling the world, anxious to return and give informational and photo presentations of her travels to groups in Humboldt.

Mildred was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church and U.M.W. She enjoyed caring for her flowers and visits to family. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and PEO.

She is survived by her sisters, Genevieve Borchers of Freeport, IL, and Marjorie Juel of San Luis Obispo, CA; 22 nieces and nephews; as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, Marshall, and Herbert Henry; and sister, Jean Staker. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be made to Faith United Methodist Memorial funds.
