August 19, 1903 --- January 13, 1954

Arthur Dean, only son of George and Ida Shaunce was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa on August 19, 1903 and passed away at St. John's hospital, Springfield, Illinois on January 13, 1954 having reached the age of 50 years 4 months and 24 days.

Arthur, better known in Eagle Grove as Dean, grew to manhood here and attended the grade school and one year of high school, later working as a laborer and then as a fireman on the Chicago Great Western Railroad. On March 6, 1924 he was united in marriage to Vera Hutchison and to this union five children were born, all of whom survive. They are Sara Jane, now Mrs. Robert Rhyne of Pacoima, Calif.; Shirley Ann, now Mrs. L. C. Humphreys of San Francisco Calif.; Barbara Lou Shaunce of Bloomington, Ill.; Robert Dean and George Edward both of Los Angeles, Calif.

For many years he has been employed as a night watchman at John Hobbs Corporation at Springfield and worked up to his death although he has been in failing health for several years. As a young man he was baptized and received as a member of the Eagle Grove Baptist church, but for many years was a member of the West Side Christian Church at Springfield, Ill.

Besides the children he is survived by his wife, one grandson, Mark Steven Rhyne, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Shaunce, two sisters, Ruby, now Mrs. Dennis Moon, and Georgia, now Mrs. Howard Morgan all of Eagle Grove, besides a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends both here and at Springfield. Dean was a friendly man and well liked by those who knew him.

Services were held Saturday afternoon, January 16, 1954 at 2 o'clock at Wilson's Chapel with Rev. Harry Stickle, pastor of the Baptist church officiating and interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery [Eagle Grove, Iowa].
