Greg Mathieu died peacefully at University of Iowa Hospitals after a long illness on April 29, 2014. A long-time resident of Iowa City, he spent 29 years working in the Paint Shop at the University Hospital. Born in Eagle Grove, son of Robert and Catherine Mathieu, Greg attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and Eagle Grove Community Middle School and High School. He was an accomplished long-distance runner, establishing and holding records in the two-mile through the North Central Conference and competing at the Iowa State Championships. An avid musician and amateur radio buff, Greg continued to enjoy both his hobbies in his retirement.

Greg is survived by his brothers and sister: Michael Mathieu, Minneapolis; Robert Mathieu, Des Moines; Cathy Chebuhar, Colorado Springs; Marc Mathieu, Los Angeles; and Har Mathieu, New York City. Beloved of family and friends, Greg will be remembered for his gentle spirit and his love of social justice.
