Funeral Rites for Mrs. John Avery
Funeral services for Mrs. John Avery were held Tuesday at two o'clock at the Rowan Congregational Church with the Rev. William Burns officiating. Burial was at the Rowan cemetery with the Johnston Funeral home of Belmond in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Dillard Tudor, Joe McKinley, Jay Knuths, Earl Jones, Herbert Barz and Francis McAlpine.Eva Gladys Fischer, daughter of Mathias and Margaret Hamer Fischer was born February 24, 1910 at the family home near Woolstock and passed away October 31, 1964 at the Belmond Hospital at the age of 54 years. She received her education at rural schools in Woolstock township. She was united in marriage to John Avery of Miller, South Dakota on September 24, 1930, at the Presbyterian parsonage in Clarion. They spent the first part of their married life near Miller, South Dakota, where their only son, Bob Avery was born. The next few years were spent near Eagle Grove and the past 18 years at their farm home south of Rowan. Mrs. Avery was a member of the Rowan Congregational church and a member of the Rowan Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Immediate survivors are her husband, John, son, Bob, and two grandsons, Jim and Jack. Other survivors are two brothers, William C. Fischer of Webster City and Merlyn Fischer of Eagle Grove and two sisters, Vera (Mrs. Gerald Elston) and Dorothy (Mrs. Meriell McCoy) both of Des Moines. She will also be mourned by many friends, relatives and neighbors in this and surrounding communities.
