Vernita White, 84, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa. Vernita will be laid to rest at Iowa Veteran's Cemetery with her husband, Archie at a private family service.

Vernita Arlene Klaffke was born October 18, 1929 in Buckeye, Iowa to Lorenz and Elsa (Ratzke) Klaffke. She grew up in both Buckeye and Popejoy, Iowa and graduated from Popejoy High School. On September 8, 1948 Vernita was united in marriage to Archie White. The couple farmed in Popejoy, Iowa and were blessed with two children, Ed and Sandy. She and Archie lived in Tucson, Arizona before returning to Ankeny, Iowa in 2008. Vernita enjoyed gardening and cooking but most of all she loved her family who all held a special place in her heart.

Survivors include her children, Ed (Cindy) White of Clive, and Sandy (Marvin) Sandvick of Polk City; grandchildren, Crystal (Chad) Rhoads, Joseph (Jill) White, Melissa (Ethan) Smith, and Matthew (Jessie) Sandvick; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Rhoads, Madelaine White, Takhmina White, Austin Smith, Hayden Sandvick, Harlow Sandvick; and sister, Velma Bolles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie of 65 years who passed away in June 2013; and sisters, Verna Evans and Violet Hinz. A memorial fund has been set up for Vernita at Mercy Hospice of Johnston, 5820 Winwood Drive, Johnston, Iowa 50131.
