Violet Sherwood Osborne, 93, Davenport, died Monday, Aug. 12, 1996, at home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Davenport. Burial is in Hartwig Iowa Cemetery. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to service time. Memorials may be made to the church. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is handling arrangements.

The former Violet Osborne was born July 24, 1903, in Jefferson Township, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University, Ames, and taught school in Dows, Iowa. She was a girls' dorm mother, and a housemother at the Kappa Delta sorority house at Iowa State for 14 years, retiring in 1974. She was a 65-year member of Order of Eastern Star Grand Chapter of Iowa.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, H. Don and Connie Osborne, Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Mary Sherwood, Percival, Iowa; a son-in-law, Jack Smith, Davenport; sisters-in-law Bonnie Osborne, June Osborne and Alice Osborne, all of Dows; and a special friend, Virginia Alexander, Davenport. A daughter, Joanne Sherwood Smith, is deceased.
