Howard Stephens, 74, Orange City, passed away Saturday at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Howard was born June 2, 1908, near Goldfield, the son of Daniel M. Stephens and Amanda (Kelling) Stephens. On Sept. 6, 1941 he married Adrianna Geels at Beaver Dam, Michigan. Mr. Stephens served as railroad depot agent in Ringsted and Ireton, and in Orange City from 1948 until retiring in 1973. He became a resident of the Heritage House July 7, 1982. He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church of Orange City, and a former member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. James A. (Ruth) Duncan of Whitehall, Michigan; and Mrs. Joel (Mary) Visser of Hudsonville, Michigan; four grandchildren; brother, Don of Goldfield; and sister, Mrs. Thelma Black of Cincinnati Ohio. Mr. Stephens was preceded in death by a son at birth and his sister Ruth. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. John T. Ebbers officiating. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home.
