Cordelia A. Gumina, age 79, of South Riding, Virginia passed away peacefully on February 8, 2014. Cordelia was born in Hamilton County, Iowa to Carl and Ethel Whisler. She graduated from Woolstock High School where she was an accomplished student and basketball player. She started her career with the United States government as a civil servant in Washington D.C. There she met the love of her life, Leo Gumina and they married in 1957. Cordelia will be greatly missed by her four children, Mike Gumina and spouse Julie of Johnston, Iowa, Jim Gumina of Western Springs, Illinois, Tim Gumina and spouse Karen of Littleton, Colorado and Mary Zimbelman and spouse Darrell of South Riding, Virginia. Cordelia was a wonderful grandmother to her 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Cordelia and Leo loved to travel and enjoyed many cruise ship trips with their friends and family. They also enjoyed their beach house and traveling the country visiting family. Cordelia was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and her husband Leo. Visitation will be held February 13, 2014 at the Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Avenue, Vienna Virginia from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. on February 14 at St. Marks Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Road Vienna, Virginia. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the family for future designation.
