February 22, 1896 --- August 30, 1989

Hazel Prehm, 93, Friendship Haven, former Eagle Grove resident, died Wednesday at Friendship Haven [Fort Dodge, Iowa]. There will be a memorial service today at 10:30 a.m. at Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be at a later date in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Survivors include a sister, Mary Helen Prehm, Friendship Haven; three nieces and two nephews.

Hazel Prehm was born at Eagle Grove where she attended schools. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1914; and then attended Grinnell College for two years; after which she taught social studies at the Eagle Grove High School for six years. For five years, she taught at the University Experimental School at the University of Iowa. During this time, she earned both bachelor and master's degrees in elementary school supervision and administration. From 1931 to 1940, she was director of elementary schools in East Waterloo. For the next 21 years, she lived in New York State and was assistant superintendent of schools in Rochester, White Plains and Great Neck, Long Island. During that period, she also taught summer school at the University of Maine, Washington State University, and all three New York State universities. She entered Friendship Haven in 1977. She was a member of both Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge Lutheran churches; a member of Pi Lamba Theta and the Delta Kappa Gamma.
