January 4, 1903 --- September 17, 1989

Mary Helen Prehm was born on January 4, 1903, the daughter of Justin and Mary Kirkeberg Prehm, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. She received her education in the Eagle Grove school system, graduating from the Eagle Grove High School. Furthering her education, Mary attended Drake University in Des Moines for 2 years before receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She also took summer courses at Cornell College and the University of Maine. She then returned to Drake University for the completion of her college education. With this finally came the long awaited spoils, the receiving of her Master of Arts degree in education. She put her education to work by teaching elementary schools in Clarion, Emmetsburg, Mason City, and Des Moines, Iowa. Mary retired after finishing her years spent teaching in the Des Moines school district.

On September 17, 1989, failing health took the life of Mary Helen Prehm at the Friendship Haven Retirement Home, Fort Dodge, Iowa, where she had been a resident for the last 3 years. Mary leaves in passing... She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers 5 sisters-including the recent passing of her sister, Hazel Prehm, this past August 30th. Also preceding in death was her nephew, Reed Martin, and a sister-in-law, Louise Prehm.

Her memberships included the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and the honorary educational sororities of Delta Kappa Gamma and Pi Lambda Theta. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 19, 1989, at 10:30 a.m., in the chapel of Kastler-Babcock funeral home, Eagle Grove, Iowa. The Reverend Maynard Moehn, interim pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, officiated and burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
