Florence Beatrice Prehm, age 88, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 1980 at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital, Mason City, Ia. She had been a patient there for one week. Florence was born June 19, 1891 at Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Justin and Mary Kirkeberg Prehm. Florence attended school in Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1909. She attended Grinnell College, Grinnell, and graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. She taught elementary school at Decorah, Iowa, was the principal at Carpenter Grade School in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and later was the principal of the Junior High School in Eagle Grove. Miss Prehm then worked for the State Department of Public Instruction in Des Moines. Florence returned to college and received her Masters degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. She then taught college at Creston Junior College, Creston. Florence retired in 1957 to Des Moines. She and her sister, Mary Helen, returned to Eagle Grove in 1968 where they made their home. Florence later resided at the Rotary Ann Custodial Home, Eagle Grove.

Miss Prehm was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove and of the State Elementary Principals society. She was a State Founder and President of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of Phi Lambda Pheta, an honorary scholastic group elected because of high scholastic achievement.

Miss Prehm is survived by two sisters: Hazel Prehm of Fort Dodge, and Mary Helen Prehm of Eagle Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 1980 at 2 p.m. at Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Rev. Marvin Berkeland officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
