September 28, 1887 -- June 7, 1960

Maurice James Prehm, son of Justin and Mary Prehm, was born in Eagle Grove Sept. 28, 1887. He was baptized when an infant by the Congregational minister at that time. Maurice attended the Eagle Grove schools and was graduated from high school in 1907. After working for the Chicago Northwestern Railway Company for several years he decided to go to college and attended Grinnell College for two years. He returned to his former work with the Railway Company and continued until his retirement. He was a Life Member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and also a member the Veterans Association. In March of this year Maurice had the flu from which he didn't make a satisfactory recovery. He entered Lutheran hospital, Ft. Dodge last Sunday afternoon and passed away Tuesday afternoon.

Maurice never married. Survivors are four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Bess Holmquist with whom he resided and Florence Prehm of Eagle Grove, Hazel Prehm of Great Neck, L.I., N.Y., Mary Helen Prehm and Chesney Prehm of Des Moines and Ernest of Jefferson. Other survivors are two nephews and three nieces as well as several relatives on his mother's side of the family. He was preceded in death by his father in 1937, his mother in 1951 and his sister Katherine (Mrs. Howard Martin) in 1946. Maurice was an unassuming, friendly person who was known to have quietly helped many people at their times of need and never to have permitted any issue to be made of this. He was a friend to children as well as to older people. Maurice was a life-long resident of Eagle Grove. Funeral services were held at Kastler Funeral Home Friday.
