September 16, 1886 --- June 18, 1972

Bessie C. Prehm was born September 16, 1886 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. Oldest child of Justin and Mary Prehm. She attended and was graduated from Eagle Grove schools in 1905. She received preparation for teaching at the State Normal School in Cedar Falls, Iowa and taught in the Thor and Kanawha Schools. For several years she served as cashier at the Atwood, Fort and Baker Store. On August 24, 1910 she was married to Elmer Holmquist. They lived in Eagle Grove until 1924, at which time Mr. Holmquist was transferred to Chicago as Master Mechanic of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 1946 after the death of her husband Mrs. Holmquist returned to Eagle Grove. In 1966 she became a resident of the Rotary Ann Home. She was a life long member of the United Church of Christ, she was an active member in the Lamos Bible Class and the Ladies Guild. She was more than a 50 yr. member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Katherine [Martin], three brothers, Maurice, Ernest and Chesney. Survivors include three sisters, Hazel of Iowa City, Florence and Mary Helen of Eagle Grove. Mrs. Holmquist died Sunday, June 18 at the Rotary Ann Home. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, with Rev. W. E. Carlson officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
