William Joseph Peterson, 48, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a lengthy illness. The body has been cremated.

William was born Aug. 10, 1952 in Belmond, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Margaret (Miller) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Patrick¹s Catholic Church in Clear Lake and attended Clear Lake schools. William served in the Army during the Viet Nam War, September 1969 to May 1971. He was a skilled carpenter and his work can be admired in many different states. He had been a self-employed carpenter for several years. He also worked at many of the area construction companies and for a short time at the Clear Lake Bakery.

He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Reddy on Aug. 15, 1987. Two children became a part of that union. He enjoyed raising and playing with all of his children. His children and family were very special to him. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, music, sports, cars, and cycles. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Margaret (Peterson) Groen of Plymouth, Iowa; his father and step-mother, Marvin and Jean Peterson, of Clear Lake; three children, George Marvin “Spike” Peterson and Zara McKenzie Peterson, both of Concord, N.H. and Melissa Michelle Peterson of Clear Lake; four sisters, Margaret Dorenkamp of St. Louis, Mo., Judy Smith and her husband Ronald, of Titusville, Fla., Patricia Buland and her husband Michael of Monument, Colo., who is a special friend and brother-in-law to Billy, and Mary Lou Wyborny and her husband, Michael, of Mason City; a step-sister, Karen Green and step-brother, Steve Elliott, both of Clear Lake; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Sophie Miller, and paternal grandparents, Andrew and Inga Peterson; step-father, Harm Groen; two uncles, Harvey and William Miller.
