River crash kills driver

Webster City, Ia. – Paul W. Knight, 20, of Webster City was killed Thursday night when his pickup truck crashed into the Boone River here. Police said Knight was driving north on Des Moines Street shortly after 8 p.m. when he lost control of the truck. It skidded 95 feet, struck guard rail posts and a bridge abutment, then flew 126 feet into the river. Office Ken Aldrich and Richard Seiser, a member of the fire department rescue squad, waded into the waist-deep water to extricate Knight from the truck. They were unsuccessful in attempts to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said an autopsy would be performed Friday to determine the cause of death.
