May 30, 1801 --- January 12, 1897

David Mowers was born in Herkimer County, NY, 30 May 1801. He was married to Susan Stroup, in N.Y. on 14 Mar. 1842. About 16 years ago they moved from N.Y. to Wright County, Iowa, living most of that time near Holmes. On 28 Mar. 1894 his companion in life died and was buried in the Clarion Cemetery, by whose side his remains were placed on Thursday last the 14th. They had journeyed pleasantly together in life's pathway for 53 years and the last would have been very lonesome to him but for the loving kindness and affectionate care of his children that remain with him. Their union had been blessed with 10 children. 4 died in their early married life, leaving 2 boys and 4 girls to mourn the death of their kind and faithful father. One daughter resides in Nebraska, 1 son in Grafton, Iowa, and the remaining children reside in our midst being, Mr. George H. Mower, Mrs. John Bergy, Mrs. Wm. H. Ellsworth and Mrs. W. M. Nicholes. Over 20 years ago he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in N.Y. While very deaf during his last days on earth, on Tues. night the 12th ... he passed away. 95 yrs 7 mo. 12 days.
