Birda Caquelin, 93, Formerly of Woolstock, died Saturday night, Sept. 22, at Southfield Care Center in Webster City. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City, Gerald Caquelin officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City.
Birda Mae Norman, daughter of John Wesley and Viola (Beck) Norman, was born May 25, 1897, in Decatur County, where she was educated in rural schools. She married Orville Caquelin on Dec. 27, 1933, in Webster City. The couple resided in Woolstock, where Mrs. Caquelin started the first women's softball team, and later owned and operated a cafe for 12 years. Following the death of her husband of Sept. 14, 1983, she continued to reside in Woolstock, until moving to Southfield on Nov 17, 1986.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Johnnie) Luppes, Blairsburg; a granddaughter, Laurie (Mrs. Bob) Sutherland, Blairsburg; and two great-granddaughters, Sheri and Julie Sutherland. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Russell Norman, Isaak Norman, and Jess Norman; and two sisters, Esther Baker and Nellie Butcher. Mrs. Caquelin was a member of the United Methodist Church of Woolstock.
