Last Rites Held for John Larsen
John Larsen was born in Langeland, Denmark, April 27, 1872, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Hansen, the youngest of seven children. He passed away at his home in Goldfield, August 5, 1952, aged 81 years, 3 months and 8 days. He came to America in 1890, coming directly to Iowa and to the Evergreen neighborhood near Goldfield. His home has been in Goldfield and environs continuously. On Nov. 5, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Anne Christensen. Their home has been blessed with seven sons and five daughters, all living but one, Alice, who lived to be three years old. They are: Howard C. of Vincent; Clarence A. of Dows; Rose (Mrs. John Riggs) of Fairfield; Ernest W. of Abingdon, Ill.; John E. of Cantril; Marie (Mrs. George Gangestad) of Clarion; George L. of Goldfield; Carroll W. of Clatskanie, Ore.; Irene (Mrs. Norman Peer) of Renwick; Nellie (Mrs. Wesley Brown) of Eagle Grove; and Roy K. of Boone. Also there are 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Larsen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, the state church of Denmark. On Jan 6, 1907, he united with the Goldfield United Presbyterian church and of his children, 10 have been or are members of it. About eight years ago he discovered that he was a victim of a rather common chronic ailment, which more and more weakened him until the last two years he has been confined at home and increasingly bedfast.
Funeral services was held Thursday, Aug. 7, in the Eyler funeral home at Clarion, by his pastor, Rev. C. G. McKnight, assisted by Mrs. Craig Nelson, soprano, and Mrs. B. L. Basinger, pianist.
