July 6, 1857 --- November 21, 1913

Alva Packard passed away at the hospital in Des Moines last Thursday evening from the effects of an operation performed the day before. Mr. Packard had been in poor health for the past three months and unable to attend his duties on the mail route. For the past nine years he has been a faithful and obliging mail carrier on route No. 1, and his friends are saddened to lean of his death. He was born in Boone township July 6, 1857, and was united in marriage to Miss Eva Woolsey in 1877. To this union were born twelve children, one son dying in infancy. All the children were present at the funeral except one son Richard, who resides at Seattle, Wash. The funeral was held from the M. E. church on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, Rev. Hocking officiating. Burial was at Luni cemetery. Mr. Packard was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge of this place and has held the office of secretary for the past 24 years. That order held services at the grave. The flowers were many and beautiful sent in by sympathizing friends. His familiar form will be missed in many ways and places.
