Funeral Services Held Saturday Afternoon for Mrs. Roy H. McCurry

Funeral services were held last Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home and at 2:30 at the Methodist church for Mrs. Roy H. McCurry. Rev. E. D. Hart preached the sermon and burial was made at the Goldfield cemetery. The local Eastern Star chapter attended the service in a body and conducted the graveside service.

Mrs. McCurry passed away the previous Wednesday evening, suffering a heart attack. Although she had been seriously ill for several weeks, she had just had one of her best days, and her death came s a shock to the family, relatives and friends.

Helen Packard McCurry was born July 26, 1886, at Renwick, Iowa and passed away at her home southeast of Renwick on September 10, 1941, at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 14 days. She spent her entire life in Renwick and vicinity, attended and graduated from the local high school, and later taught in the rural schools of Wright and Humboldt counties.

On March 11, 1908, she was united in marriage to Roy H. McCurry and started housekeeping on the farm southeast of Renwick where she resided until the time of her death. This union was blessed with seven children: Mrs. Vera Packard of Edna, Iowa; Stanley of Renwick, and Jeanne, Jerry, Bob and Patricia at home. Two children, Darwin and Dolores, died in infancy.

She was a loving mother, her first interest in life being her home and family. She was active in community affairs, having been leader of the Liberty 4-H girls, a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Rebekah lodge. She joined the Methodist church in her girlhood and sang in the choir for many years.

He had been in good health until about a year ago when an ailment caused her to submit to an operation at a Rochester, Minn., Hospital. She enjoyed a period of temporary improvement, followed by gradually failing health and for the past five months had been confined to bed. She was always cheerful and patient and enjoyed having her friends call and reading the many cards and letters she received.

Besides her husband and five children, she is survived by her aged mother, Mrs. A. A. Packard; one grandson, Larry Packard; nine brothers and sisters, Art of Mason City, Richard of Seattle, Wash., Herbert and Edred of Webster City, Mrs. Lorraine Emme of Laport City; Burr, Mrs. Inda Blesie, Mrs. Grace McCurry and Mrs. Doris Keister, all of Renwick; also many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her father and one brother, Alva, preceded her in death.
