Mrs. Elizabeth Church Died Saturday Morning
Funeral Held Monday

Mrs. Elizabeth Church, 80, passed away early last Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy Witham, at Mason City where she had been making her home the past few years. Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon, October 12, at 1:30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. Babler and at 2:00 o'clock at Emanuel's Evangelical church with the local pastor, Rev. F. A. Pieper, officiating. A mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. John Zimmerman, Dick Elmer and Miss Martha Elmer sang the following hymns: "Sweet Bye and Bye," "Sweet Hour of Prayer," and "Going Down the Valley." Burial was made in the Swiss cemetery northwest of Renwick.

Elisabeth Church, daughter of Esias and Margaret Stauffacher, was born in Matt, Canton Glarus, Switzerland, on April 29, 1862, and passed away at Mason City, Iowa, on October 10, 1942, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 11 days. She came to America when she was two years old with her parents and other members of the family and they located near Monroe, Wisconsin, where she received her early education and grew to womanhood. In the year of 1889 she came to Renwick, Iowa, and made her home with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. M. Babler, and she has resided in this community ever since until recently when she went to Mason City to live with her daughter, Mrs. Roy Witham and family.

She was married on February 2, 1892, to Elmer Church. To this union four children were born. Her husband and one daughter, Alma, and one son, Charley, have preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lottie Stevens of Scarville, Iowa, and Mrs. Jennie Witham of Mason City, Iowa; and seven sisters, Mrs. Barbara Norder of Juda, Wis., Mrs. Anna Walter of Monroe, Wisconsin, Mrs. Margreta Phillips of Pasadena, California, Mrs. Mary Babler of Renwick, Iowa, Mrs. Dorothy Halder of Winneconne, Wisconsin, Mrs. Katheryn Pinnow of Omro, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Agnes Peaboby of Albany, Wis; also 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Church was nearly a lifetime member of the Evangelical church, having joined it in her early at Dutch Hollow, a country community near Monroe, Wisconsin. She loved the church and was faithful in attendance at its divine services. Her beautiful Christian life will remain a cherished memory and a benediction to all those who mourn her passing and to the many friends.
